Personal Color, Personality Color, and Lipstick Making with Beauty Art Students at Ansan University
COCORY recently held a 3.5-hour color workshop for students in the Department of Beauty Art at Ansan University.
The program combined Personal Color and Personality Color theory with hands-on activities, including Personal Color consulting practice, cosmetic color mixing, and custom lipstick making.
As students preparing for careers in the beauty industry, they showed strong curiosity about color and actively participated throughout both the theory and practical sessions.
Understanding Personal Color

The workshop began with Personal Color theory.
Rather than focusing only on which colors suit an individual, the students explored how different colors can be observed, compared, and understood.
For future beauty professionals, developing an understanding of color can be useful not only for makeup and beauty styling, but also when communicating personalized recommendations to clients.
Exploring Personality Color

The session also introduced Personality Color.
This allowed students to consider color from another perspective, looking beyond external color harmony and exploring how color can also be connected to an individual’s characteristics and overall image.
By experiencing both Personal Color and Personality Color, the students were able to approach color from multiple perspectives.
Experiencing Personal Color Consulting

The students also had the opportunity to work directly with Personal Color tools.
By comparing colors and using the tools themselves, they experienced part of the consulting process rather than only learning the theory.
Hands-on practice helps students understand how subtle differences between colors can be observed and how color information can later be communicated to clients.
For Beauty Art students, this was also an opportunity to experience how color knowledge can be connected to a professional consultation.
From Personal Color to Cosmetic Color Mixing

The next part of the workshop moved from color analysis to color creation.
Students examined different pigments and lipstick colors before beginning their own mixing process.
Through hands-on practice, they learned that a lipstick shade can change depending on how different colors are combined and adjusted.
This gave them an opportunity to connect color theory with the process of creating an actual cosmetic product.
Adjusting Hue, Lightness, and Saturation

Color mixing is not simply about combining several pigments.
While working toward their desired lipstick color, students considered questions such as:
Should another color be added?
Should the lightness be increased?
Should the saturation be lowered to create a more muted color?
By observing each change and gradually adjusting the mixture, students were able to see how hue, lightness, and saturation influence the final result.
Even a small change in the mixture can alter the impression of a lipstick shade.
The process of mixing, comparing, and adjusting helped students understand cosmetic color in a much more practical way.
Creating Their Own Lipstick

After completing the color-mixing process, each student created a lipstick using their customized shade.
Comparing the finished colors side by side made it possible to see how shades that may initially appear similar can still differ in hue, lightness, and saturation.
The activity connected several parts of the workshop:
observing color,
understanding color,
consulting with color,
mixing color,
and finally creating a cosmetic product.
Passionate Future Beauty Professionals

One of the most memorable parts of the workshop was the students’ active participation.
They responded enthusiastically during the lecture and showed strong interest during both the consulting and lipstick-making activities.
Their curiosity about Personal Color and cosmetic color reflected their enthusiasm for developing their future careers in the beauty industry.
